Beyond the Tie: Threads for Change Inspires Confidence at Forney ISD’s Dress for Success Workshop

On October 10, 2024, Threads for Change Foundation proudly joined Forney ISD for an exclusive event at The Opportunity Central (The OC), where we had the chance to engage with 378 students through three impactful Dress for Success workshop sessions. Hosted at The OC in Forney, Texas, this event marked an exciting opportunity for us to support career-focused education through hands-on learning experiences. With 300 donated ties, we equipped students with both the style and confidence needed to approach their future careers.

A Behind-the-Scenes Experience at The OC

The event kicked off with a behind-the-scenes tour of The OC, Forney ISD’s visionary space for career exploration and college readiness. Through career and technical education (CTE) programs, student-run businesses, and a unique blend of real-world partnerships, The OC is redefining what high school education can look like. Threads for Change was thrilled to play a role in this forward-thinking approach to student success, adding our focus on career readiness through professional attire and self-presentation.

Dress for Success Workshop Highlights

Throughout three engaging sessions, our founder, Daniel Mofor, took the stage, guiding 378 eager students through the essentials of dressing with confidence for the workplace. As the main speaker, Daniel shared his own journey in fashion and gave a firsthand look at the real-world impact of a strong first impression.

With each session, the energy was high as Daniel walked them through building a professional wardrobe without sacrificing personal style—an approach that connects self-expression with career readiness. Students got practical, insider tips on pulling together looks that work for interviews, networking events, and even the first day on the job. Along the way, Daniel encouraged them to see how their style could enhance their confidence and make each of them stand out.

Highlights from the Workshop Included:

  • Building a Professional Wardrobe: Each student learned how to start with foundational pieces that can grow with their personal taste and career goals.
  • Dressing for Success: Practical, down-to-earth advice for choosing looks that fit the event, whether it's an interview or a networking meetup.
  • Confidence through Style: As Daniel emphasized, when you look good, you feel good—personal style isn’t just about appearance; it’s about expressing who you are and the confidence that comes with it.

By the end of the day, the students left not only with 300 new ties to kick off their wardrobes, but with renewed confidence in how to present themselves professionally.

A Commitment to Youth Empowerment

Through the Dress for Success workshops, Threads for Change is dedicated to empowering youth with essential career-readiness skills. Our tie donations were more than just a gesture; they symbolized the first steps toward a promising career, boosting each student’s confidence as they envision a professional future.

At Threads for Change Foundation, we believe that investing in students’ futures begins with equipping them to look and feel their best. This event was a powerful reminder of how much impact a single workshop can have. We’re grateful to Forney ISD, The OC, and extend a special thanks to Forney’s Mayor, Jason Roberson, for their support in making this opportunity possible. We look forward to inspiring even more students across Texas and beyond.
